ワールド牧場, Animal farm and zoo in Kanan, Japan

World Ranch is an animal-interaction theme park in Kanan, Minamikawachi District, Osaka Prefecture, home to roughly 140 species and about 1,500 animals. Its grounds were relocated to the summit and rebuilt as a flat, walkable site in March 2016. Areas include grazing fields for goats and sheep, a dolphin and whale contact pool, a horse-riding course, dog and cat, raptor and small-animal contact halls, plus a dog run and field athletics.

World Ranch opened on April 22, 1989, on a steep hillside site in Kanan. On March 19, 2016, it relocated to the summit and underwent a large-scale renewal that flattened the grounds and greatly increased the number of animal species.

The place encourages hands-on interactions with animals through activities like walking sheep, feeding goats, and milking cows. These experiences show how much Japanese visitors value spending time directly with different creatures.

The site was rebuilt on the summit in March 2016 and is now flat and easy to walk. From Nankai or Kintetsu lines, take the 4-city community bus to Sakurazaka 1-chome stop, then walk 10 minutes. The west side of the grounds looks out over the Osaka Plain and, on clear days, to the Akashi Strait Bridge.

The mascots are seven animals called the World Characters, among them Gallop the horse and Purin the rabbit; they appear on pamphlets and souvenirs. The farm also takes in animals whose owners can no longer keep them and runs an adoption programme, and it feeds its animals eco-feed made from food waste such as cabbage outer leaves and sake lees.
