Kanda, Industrial town in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan
Kanda is a town in Fukuoka Prefecture located in the Miyako district and covers approximately 49 square kilometers along the Gulf of Suo. The landscape is shaped by the Hiraodai karst plateau on the western side and the Miyako Plain extending to the south.
Kanda was elevated from a village to a town in 1924 and developed from its origins in the ancient Buzen Province and its role within the Kokura Domain. This transition marked the beginning of stronger economic and administrative growth in the region.
The Kanda Float Festival happens every September with 14 traditional floats that are recognized as an Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Fukuoka Prefecture. This celebration is a central event in the town's yearly calendar and brings people together to mark the season.
The town has good transport connections through Kitakyushu Airport, the Nippō Main Line railway, and the Higashikyushu Expressway for regional access. Visitors can use these links to easily explore other areas in the Kyushu region.
The area is home to manufacturing facilities for both Nissan and Toyota, making it a major contributor to Japan's automotive industry. These factories are a significant part of the local economy and provide substantial employment in the region.
