Toyono, Mountain town in Toyono District, Japan
Toyono is a town at the northern tip of Osaka Prefecture, situated across forested slopes and green valleys. The landscape is dominated by woodlands that rise between 300 and 600 meters in elevation.
The area was part of Settsu Province and fell under direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo period. It gained its status as a town in 1977.
The town maintains four elementary schools and two junior high schools that serve the educational needs of local families in the Osaka metropolitan region.
The Nose Electric Railway Myoken Line connects the town to surrounding areas and urban centers. The Shin-Meishin Expressway provides road access to larger cities in the region.
Toyono is known as the birthplace of the Ginyose chestnut variety, discovered from a seedling in 1750. This distinctive chestnut type became an agricultural landmark for the town and remains part of its farming heritage.
