Hachijo

Hachijo is a coastal town on Hachijōjima island, dominated by two prominent mountains and rocky shorelines that face the Philippine Sea. The landscape bears volcanic origins and displays the typical terrain found across this remote island community.

The town was formed in 1954 from the merger of five villages on Hachijōjima, marking a turning point in the island's development. During the Edo period, the area functioned as an exile location before eventually becoming a modern residential community.

Visitors can reach Hachijo via daily flights from Tokyo that take around 45 minutes, or by overnight ferry service from Tokyo's harbor. The island remains accessible throughout the year, though conditions may vary depending on the season.
