Kudoyama, Mountain pilgrimage town in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan
Kudoyama extends along the Kinokawa River valley, incorporating smaller valleys formed by the Fudodani and Nyu Rivers at the base of Mount Koya.
The Sanada clan, including the warlord Yukimura Sanada, lived in exile in Kudoyama following their defeat at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600.
Jison-in Temple, established in 816, houses the grave of Buddhist master Kukai's mother and receives visitors seeking blessings for maternal matters.
The town connects to major cities through the Nankai Koya Line, with transfers available at Hashimoto Station for access to surrounding regions.
Stone markers placed every 109 meters guide pilgrims along the 22-kilometer Choishimichi route from Kudoyama to the temples of Mount Koya.
