Takushoku University, Private university in Bunkyo district, Tokyo, Japan
Takushoku University is a private institution in Bunkyo district, Tokyo, with five faculties: Commerce, Political Science and Economics, Foreign Languages, International Studies, and Engineering. The institution operates across two campuses in the metropolitan area.
Prince Taro Katsura founded the institution in 1900 as Taiwan Association School to train graduates for administering Taiwan during Japanese colonial rule. The institution later changed its name and evolved into a general university with an international focus.
The name derives from the institution's original mission to support Japan's colonial expansion through education. Today students from more than 40 countries come to campus for language courses and exchange programs.
The main campus sits about 10 minutes by rail from Tokyo Station and is accessible via several subway lines. Buildings spread across two locations, with faculties assigned according to academic discipline.
The Faculty of Political Science and Economics ranks as the third oldest of its kind in Japan after Waseda and Meiji. Engineering students use a separate campus outside the city center with dedicated laboratories and workshops.
