Ranzan

Ranzan is a town on the Higashimatsuyama Plateau featuring mountains, valleys, and agricultural fields across its landscape. The varied terrain creates a mix of open rural areas and smaller elevated zones throughout the municipality.

The municipality began in 1889 as two separate villages that merged in 1955 and gained town status in 1967. This development reflects rural modernization during Japan's post-war period.

The Ranzan Festival takes place on the first Sunday of November and showcases local foods, agricultural products, and performances by Yoroi Musha warriors. The event brings together traditional martial demonstrations with contemporary community gathering.

The Tobu Tojo Line railway connects the town by train, while the Musashi-Ranzan Highway provides road access to the Kan-etsu Expressway. Visitors should allow time to explore the rural pathways and local stations at their own pace.

The Great Purple Emperor Butterfly Park houses Japan's national butterfly species and offers learning experiences about local wildlife in its biotope zone. The park demonstrates the region's importance for butterfly conservation in eastern Japan.
