Komazawa Olympic Park

Komazawa Olympic Park is a sports park in Meguro-ku featuring multiple athletic facilities and open spaces. It contains a stadium, gymnasium, tennis courts, and a swimming pool, all arranged across grounds designed for both competitive events and casual recreation.

The grounds were originally prepared for the 1940 Olympics, which were eventually cancelled. The site later hosted various sporting events during the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo.

The name reflects the historical Komaba area, linking the space to its local identity. Today, residents use it as both a training ground and a social gathering place where daily exercise blends with community life.

The park is well-marked and easy to navigate during daylight hours, with different sports areas clearly signed. Plan extra time to explore, as facilities are spread across the grounds and walking between them takes longer than it might initially appear.

Before becoming an Olympic venue, this location housed the Tokyo Golf Club where Emperor Hirohito played with King George V. This royal connection reveals how the site transformed from an exclusive gathering place for elites into a public sports center.
