Goshikizuka kofun, Ancient burial mound in Tarumi-ku, Japan
The Goshikizuka Kofun extends 194 meters in length and reaches a height of 18 meters, featuring a distinctive keyhole shape with square front and round rear sections.
Built between the late 4th and early 5th centuries, this tomb represents the largest burial mound in Hyogo Prefecture and received National Historic Site designation in 1921.
The structure incorporates 2,200 cylindrical haniwa clay figures and 2.23 million fukiishi stones, demonstrating advanced construction techniques of ancient Japanese burial practices.
Visitors can access the site daily from 9:00 to 17:00, reaching it through a 10-minute walk from Kasumigaoka Station in the Tarumi district of Kobe.
The mound contains three distinct layers decorated with finned-cylindrical clay tubes, while archaeological discoveries include rare Kasseki-sei Komochi Magatama artifacts.
