Saga Castle, Japanese castle in Saga, Japan

Saga Castle exhibits traditional Japanese architecture with wide moats, stone foundations, and multiple defense barriers surrounding the central complex.

Initially built in 1602, the castle served as the stronghold of the Nabeshima clan during the Edo period until significant damages in 1726.

The reconstructed Main Palace, completed in 2004, functions as a historical museum showcasing artifacts and documents from the castle's extensive past.

Located within walking distance from Saga Station, the castle grounds and museum offer free admission with guided tours available in multiple languages.

The castle features the surviving Shachino Gate from 1838, which bears visible bullet marks from the Saga Rebellion of 1874.
