Kōsan-ji

The temple complex encompasses 55,000 square meters on Ikuchijima Island and includes multiple buildings displaying different architectural periods of Japanese history.

Construction began in 1936 when businessman Kanemoto Kōsanji initiated the project as a tribute to his mother, taking three decades to complete the entire complex.

The site contains fifteen buildings designated as Important Cultural Assets and houses a museum with 2,000 classical Japanese art pieces.

Visitors can reach the temple via a 40-minute ferry ride from Onomichi Port to Setoda Port, with local buses stopping directly at the entrance.

The Heights of Eternal Hope hill features a collection of sculptures carved from Italian Carrara marble, including the Tower of Light at its summit.
