Pailin Province, Province in western Cambodia
Pailin Province extends across 1,194 square kilometers of land near the Thailand border, featuring mountainous terrain and numerous waterways throughout its territory.
The region transformed from a hunting ground to a gem-trading center in 1846 when settlers discovered precious stones while bathing in local streams.
The province contains a mix of Khmer and Kola communities, each maintaining their traditional practices, languages, and celebrations throughout the districts.
National Road 5 provides direct access to Pailin from Phnom Penh and Battambang, with regular bus services connecting major cities in the region.
The province contains substantial deposits of sapphires and rubies, drawing miners who continue to search for precious gems in its streams and soil.
