Wat Phlap, Buddhist temple in Bang Kacha, Thailand
Wat Phlap is a Buddhist temple in Bang Kacha featuring an octagonal golden chedi about 40 meters wide and 73 meters tall, positioned in front of the ubosot. The site includes several buildings with traditional architecture and houses important artworks from different periods.
The temple was founded in 1761 and initially served as a brick production facility, with materials used for building a nearby large temple. The site later developed into a religious center with significant architectural and artistic growth.
The temple is known for two principal Buddha statues: Luangpho Phetch in the ubosot and Luangpho Khao in the wihan, both created during the Ayutthaya period. These figures shape the spiritual character of the place and draw visitors who want to connect with this historical art form.
The temple is located along Highway 3064 between kilometer markers 7 and 8, making it relatively easy to find. Visitors should know that the site observes a dress code, so you should wear appropriate and respectful clothing.
The central sanctuary, Phrathat Chedi Sri Phothong, contains neck relics of Buddha and multiple Buddha images with a special history. The royal name was given to the chedi in 1995 by King Bhumibol, highlighting the site's national importance.
