Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital

Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital was a psychiatric facility in Gonjiam-eup, South Korea, that no longer exists today. The building was torn down in May 2018 after standing empty for years and becoming a destination for unauthorized visitors seeking abandoned spaces.

The facility opened in December 1992 and closed just four years later due to financial troubles and violations of water protection regulations. After closing in 1996, the site remained abandoned until it was completely removed in 2018.

The location inspired the 2018 South Korean horror film 'Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum', which generated 21 million dollars at the box office.
