Tell Dibbine, Archaeological site in Rayak, Lebanon
Tell Dibbine is an archaeological site in the Beqaa Valley made up of multiple layers of human settlement from different periods. The mound reveals how people lived in this location across various ancient eras.
The settlement began in the Neolithic period and was reoccupied by different peoples over thousands of years. Traces of Phoenician, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine presence mark its story until the 8th century.
The site shows evidence of multiple cultures that lived here and maintained trade connections across time. Artifacts found reveal links between Mediterranean and Middle Eastern peoples.
The site sits on a hill and can be reached from the main road connecting Rayak to other parts of the Beqaa Valley. Wear sturdy shoes since the ground is uneven and can be rocky in places.
Large portions of the mound remain unexcavated and may hold information about ancient trade routes through the valley. Archaeologists believe there are still many discoveries waiting beneath the surface.
