Ukmergė, city in Lithuania
Ukmergė is a city in central Lithuania situated on the Sartai River. It developed as a regional trade center with a compact downtown area where residential buildings and shops sit close together.
The city was first mentioned in 1385 and played an important role as a trade point at a natural river crossing. Like many Lithuanian places during the 20th century, it experienced major changes under different rulers.
