Ukmergė Hillfort

Ukmergė Hillfort is a fortified settlement built on raised ground with visible ramparts and ditches that mark the defensive perimeter. The earthen structures form a clear layout showing where people lived and worked within protected boundaries.

This site developed as a strategic defensive stronghold during the Iron Age to protect inhabitants and control surrounding territory. The settlement was gradually abandoned as regional defense strategies changed and communities relocated over time.

The site features well-marked pathways suitable for visitors with varying mobility needs and clear directional signage. Information boards throughout the grounds explain the visible structures and help visitors understand what they are seeing.

Excavations have uncovered pottery and tools that reveal specialized manufacturing methods and trade connections across multiple northern regions. These finds suggest the settlement was part of a far-reaching trade network linking distant communities.
