Siesikai Castle

Siesikai Castle is a Renaissance fortress on the shores of Lake Siesikai, distinguished by two preserved towers with shooting openings. The structure is protected by water-filled moats and ramparts on three sides.

A member of the Siesickis family began building this fortress in the 16th century to secure his family's holdings. The structure served as an important defensive point in the region's landscape for centuries.

The interior walls feature 17th-century paintings depicting ancient mythology scenes that reflect the artistic tastes of the noble residents who lived here. These images show how much classical learning and education mattered to the family's sense of identity.

Visitors can explore the first floor only through guided tours, while the second floor remains under restoration. It is wise to gather information about access and tour timing in advance, as reaching this island location has certain limitations.

The arrangement of windows and doors creates distinctive light patterns on solstice and equinox days within the interior spaces. This feature reflects Renaissance-era design principles intended to express cosmic harmony.
