Raudonė Castle

Raudonė Castle is a Renaissance residence built on a hilltop overlooking the Nemunas River valley in Lithuania. The structure features a distinctive round tower and today serves as a school building while allowing public access to its upper levels for views across the landscape.

A German merchant built this castle at the end of the 16th century on the site of an earlier fortress that had stood there before. The new construction replaced the medieval stronghold and shaped the hilltop landscape from that time onward.

The castle sits on a hilltop above the Nemunas River and has been a landmark for local people across generations. Its position on this important waterway made it a significant point in the landscape where communities gathered and gathered news.

The tower can be visited during the warmer months from spring through autumn, offering views across the valley and surrounding countryside. Keep in mind that the building continues to function as a school, so visiting hours may be limited by the school schedule.

On the grounds stands an ancient oak tree named after a historical ruler who, according to local legend, once stopped there. This tree connects the natural landscape with the human stories that have unfolded at this hilltop over centuries.
