Verkiai Regional Park

Verkiai Regional Park is a large forested area northeast of Vilnius featuring forests, several lakes, and a historic pilgrimage route. The landscape consists primarily of woodlands interspersed with water bodies of varying sizes.

The pilgrimage route was established in the 17th century as a recreation of Jerusalem's sacred path, allowing believers to make devotions without traveling far from home. This religious project brought structured spiritual infrastructure to the landscape.

The Verkiai Calvary functions as a pilgrimage route where visitors walk past chapels set within the forest landscape. People come here to follow this spiritual path that mirrors the sacred journey in Jerusalem.

The park is located about 10 kilometers north of central Vilnius and can be reached by car or public bus services. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes as the paths wind through forest and over natural terrain.

Several lakes within the park display a distinctive green color throughout the year, created by mineral deposits in the lake bed. This natural phenomenon makes these water bodies stand out as memorable features of the landscape.
