Church of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Griškabūdis

The Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Griškabūdis is a wooden building with an octagonal main structure and rectangular extensions. The facade features a portico supported by four Doric columns, while the interior contains a presbytery and sacristy.

Construction took place between 1792 and 1796 under the direction of Carmelite architect Juozas Vasiliauskas, with the church consecrated in 1800. This period marked an important moment in the region's church-building history.

The interior walls display painted biblical figures such as Aaron and Moses alongside representations of the four evangelists. These works from the 18th century show the religious artistic tradition of the period.

The church is located at 2A Alyvų Street in Griškabūdis and can be found easily from the road. To visit the interior, it is best to arrange access in advance with the local community.

The building preserves the only surviving polychrome facade in Lithuania and houses a valuable late Baroque organ. This organ was handcrafted by George Adam Neppert in 1804 and remains a remarkable musical instrument.
