Church of the Assumption, Salantai

The Church of the Assumption in Salantai is a Neo-Gothic stone building with two towers topped by pointed spires and featuring pointed-arched windows throughout. A large circular window sits above the main entrance, giving the facade its distinctive character.

The structure was built between 1906 and 1911, replacing two earlier wooden churches that had previously stood on the site. Its Neo-Gothic design represented an architectural choice favored for churches in the region during that period.

The church holds five wooden altars crafted by local artisans, reflecting the region's tradition of skilled woodworking. These pieces show how the community valued beautiful religious furnishings.

The church is located on Dariaus ir Girėno Street in central Salantai, making it easy to find and access. Visit on a clear day when sunlight highlights the stone details and architectural elements of the facade.

The interior features a Latin cross floor plan with ribbed vaults, combining Swedish and Lithuanian architectural influences in a single design. This layout was uncommon in the region and reflects how local builders merged different traditions.
