Beaufort Castle

Beaufort Castle is a fortress complex sitting atop a large rocky outcrop, containing both medieval ruins and a Renaissance palace. The site is surrounded by a moat that originally protected the stronghold, and both sections of the castle stand distinct from each other.

The original fortress was built starting in 1050 and underwent multiple reconstructions until the mid-1600s. Each phase of work reflects how military and architectural styles changed across five centuries of continuous occupation.

The Renaissance rooms display original furnishings and decoration that reflect how Luxembourg's nobility lived during that era. Walking through these spaces, you get a sense of daily aristocratic life and the way people arranged their homes.

The site is accessible on foot with pathways leading through both castle sections. Visitors should expect uneven ground and stairs, so sturdy shoes and some physical fitness are helpful for comfortable exploring.

Walking through the castle, you can physically feel how different the two periods are in their construction and design details. The medieval section's heavy stonework contrasts sharply with the Renaissance area's more refined spaces and openings, showing practical changes in building techniques across time.
