Gëlle Fra

The Gëlle Fra monument features a bronze female figure holding a golden wreath that stands atop a 21-meter granite obelisk in Constitution Square. Inscriptions at the base explain its role as a memorial to those who died in armed conflict.

The monument was built in 1923 to honor Luxembourgers who died in World War I. It was later expanded to include those who fell in World War II, becoming a memorial to both conflicts.
