National Mining Museum, Luxembourg, National mining museum in Rumelange, Luxembourg.

The National Mining Museum in Rumelange is a museum complex with underground galleries extending about 90 meters below the surface. Access is provided by a narrow-gauge railway system that transports visitors into the former mining areas.

Mining in the region began in Celtic and Gallo-Roman times over 2000 years ago. Industrial operations continued until the 1980s, when the mines finally closed.

The exhibits show work clothing, safety gear, and documents that reveal how mining families lived and worked in southern Luxembourg. These items give visitors a direct sense of the challenges and daily routines of the people who labored underground.

The best time to visit is between April and October, when regular tours are offered. On busy weekdays, prepare for potential waiting times as tour groups can fill up quickly.

Visitors can explore about 650 meters of tunnel system and examine original mining machinery and tools left in their working locations. This equipment provides an authentic sense of the harsh conditions miners faced underground.
