Tukums District, Administrative district in western Courland region, Latvia
Tukums District is an administrative area in western Latvia that reaches toward the Gulf of Riga. It brings together several towns and parishes scattered across this rural western region.
The area was reorganized under Soviet administration after World War Two and remained a district for decades. A major restructuring of Latvia's administrative divisions in 2009 brought significant changes to this territory.
The population of 53,734 residents represented a mix of ethnic groups, with Latvians comprising 83.9%, Russians 9.3%, and Germans 2.2% of the inhabitants.
The area is surrounded by other districts and connected by roads that pass through villages and towns. Allow time for travel between different settlements as the region is large and thinly populated.
In 2021 the territory merged with three neighboring districts to form a new larger administrative unit. This consolidation significantly changed the administrative structure of western Latvia.
