Riežupe Sand Caves, Underground cave system in Rumba Parish, Latvia
The Riežupe Sand Caves extend through a network of tunnels stretching 2 kilometers beneath the surface, with 460 meters accessible to visitors.
The cave system formed over centuries through natural sandstone erosion processes and has been utilized for various purposes throughout Latvian history.
Local communities maintain the traditions of exploring these caves by candlelight, creating an educational experience about geological formations in Latvia.
Visitors need to bring warm clothing as the temperature inside maintains a constant 8 degrees Celsius throughout all seasons.
