Svēte Manor

Svēte Manor is a stone building with vertical columns that were added in 1774 during a renovation designed by architect Severin Jensen for Duke Peter von Biron. The structure dominates its surroundings and displays features typical of manor complexes built during the 18th century in this part of Latvia.

The manor was established in 1701 as a residence for a noble family. From 1870 onward, it was repurposed for military use, a function that continued until 1993.

The manor's design reflects how 18th-century nobility in this region mixed European trends with local building practices that were common in Zemgale. Walking through it, you notice how foreign architectural ideas were adapted to suit the tastes and needs of the people who lived here.
