Radžu ūdenskrātuve, Stausee in Lettland
Radžu ūdenskrātuve is a large reservoir near Jēkabpils created when a former limestone quarry was flooded. The water body stretches about 2 kilometers long and up to 1 kilometer wide, reaching depths of up to 23 feet (7 meters) in some areas, with sandy beaches and multiple water access points.
The reservoir was formed in 1987 when authorities flooded an abandoned quarry to create a recreation and nature area. This transformation provided local residents with access to a large water body for sports and leisure activities.
The reservoir is named after the historic Radzu family, preserving their connection to this place. Visitors gather here with families and friends to spend time by the water, making it a social meeting point for the local community.
The water is safe for swimming year-round with lifeguards on duty during the season. Changing facilities, picnic tables, and grill areas are available throughout the grounds, and boat and paddle board rentals are offered.
The reservoir contains several small islands that add visual interest to the landscape. These islands are especially visible during boat trips and offer opportunities for bird watching and exploring local vegetation.
