Štricka nams, Local architectural monument in Vidzeme Suburb, Latvia
Štricka nams is a residential villa and local architectural monument in the Vidzeme Suburb, built in 1883 and located at Aristida Briāna iela 9. The entrance gates feature statues of Hermes and Dionysus created by sculptor August Folc.
The villa was built in 1883 under architect Kārlis Johans Felsko's design as a residence and administrative center for Karl Kristaps von Strickis's brewery. Later it housed various institutions, including a music school and a Christian boarding school.
The building's name comes from its original owner, reflecting the importance that successful brewery owners held in the city. Visitors can see today how such villas served as meeting places for different communities.
The building sits in a quiet residential neighborhood and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should note that it is a private property best viewed from the street and its exterior details are clearly visible from the gate area.
The mythological figures adorning the entrance gates directly reflect the building's original purpose and its connection to the brewing industry. Dionysus traditionally represents wine and celebration, while Hermes symbolizes commerce and trade.
