Rigas Art Nouveau Center, Art Nouveau museum at Alberta Street in Riga, Latvia.
The Riga Art Nouveau Center occupies a 1903 apartment on Alberta Street and displays original furniture, stained glass windows, and ornamental wall reliefs in fully restored rooms. The exhibition presents the complete interior of a wealthy household with decorative details throughout every space.
The building was designed in 1903 for architect Konstantins Peksens and his student Eizens Laube as a combined residence and workspace, with development continuing until 1907. It represents the height of Art Nouveau style in Latvia and how this European movement took shape in Riga over a century ago.
Each room reveals how affluent families in Riga arranged their homes during the early 1900s, with furnishings and decorations reflecting their social position. The spaces show how people of that era used domestic rooms for different daily activities and social purposes.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and offers guided tours through the authentically furnished spaces. It is recommended to allow enough time to explore the ornaments and details in the various rooms at a leisurely pace.
The museum houses the only complete collection of Art Nouveau objects manufactured in Latvia during the early 20th century. These regional examples show how local craftspeople interpreted and adapted European design trends to their own context.
