Raiņa un Aspazijas vasarnīca, museum in Jūrmala, Latvia
Raiņa un Aspazijas vasarnīca is a wooden summer house turned museum in Jūrmala, Latvia, where the poets Rainis and Aspazija once lived. The restored rooms on the upper floor show their private living quarters, while the lower area focuses on their shared work and relationship.
Rainis bought the summer house in autumn 1926, and from 1927 to 1929 the couple used it as a place for work and summer rest. After their deaths, the house was later restored and opened to visitors as a museum.
The exposition called “Es un Tu” uses personal objects and photographs to tell the story of the poets’ love and creative peak. Visitors can see the rooms where the two wrote and rested, giving a direct look at their daily habits.
The grounds are quiet and green, with old trees and garden paths where visitors can walk slowly. Inside, the building is mostly accessible on one level, but the upper rooms are reached only by stairs, so plan for uneven movement.
A special audio tour with three-dimensional sound lets people experience the house remotely, including the smell of sea air described through narration. This option is designed for visitors with limited vision or mobility.
