Linde Manor

Linde Manor is a manor complex in Birzgale Parish with a preserved Baroque gate from 1767 as its most distinctive feature. The park spreads across several hectares with linden trees and walking paths, with the gate marking the former estate boundaries.

The estate originated in the 16th century under Baron von Plettenberg and later came under Johann Gotthard von Mengden after his marriage to Baroness Sophia von Plettenberg. The Baroque architecture visible today was developed in the mid-18th century under new management.

The landed gentry of the region maintained connections to European building traditions, visible in what survives today. The design choices reflect how Baltic nobility imported architectural expertise and aesthetic values from abroad.

The site is best explored during daylight when the architecture and tree structures are clearly visible. The park paths allow for self-guided visits, though conditions may vary depending on the season.

The linden trees in the park feature characteristic exposed roots that seem to escape from the ground, creating a visual impression often overlooked. This botanical feature is the result of planting and natural development spanning two centuries.
