Sidi-Boughaba

Sidi-Boughaba is a protected wetland area south of Kenitra containing a large freshwater lake surrounded by forest sections. The reserve encompasses multiple habitat types that support diverse plant and animal life.

The Moroccan government designated this area as a protected reserve in 1980 and registered it as a Ramsar site. This international status provided long-term protection for the wetland ecosystem.

This place holds meaning for local communities as a space where nature and education connect. You will see groups of students exploring the wetland, learning to understand the wildlife and plants around them.

Walking paths circulate through the lake area and into the forested sections for visitors to explore on foot. Bring suitable footwear since many routes are unpaved and can be muddy after rain.

An underground aquifer feeds the lake, making it the last freshwater body on Morocco's northwest coast. This hidden water source sustains an ecosystem that would otherwise disappear from the landscape.
