Ibn Danan Synagogue, 17th-century synagogue in Mellah district of Fez, Morocco

The Ibn Danan Synagogue features wooden ceilings, traditional blue Moroccan tiles, and intricate plasterwork across its interior walls and columns.

The synagogue underwent multiple reconstructions since its initial construction in 1650, including a complete rebuilding after destruction in 1646 and restoration in 1996.

The synagogue interior displays a blend of Moroccan and Jewish traditions through geometric patterns, wrought-iron tevah, and filigree screens with arched designs.

Located within the Medina of Fez, visitors need a guide to access the synagogue, which maintains original Torah scrolls made from gazelle skin.

Members of the Danan family continuously led this religious institution from 1812 to 1960, contributing to its current name and preservation.
