Fez Prefecture

Fez Prefecture is an administrative authority in the Fès-Meknès region of northern Morocco, with the city of Fez serving as its main hub. It oversees several urban districts and surrounding municipalities through a centralized system of local governance.

It received its current structure in 2015 during Morocco's major administrative reorganization when provinces were reshaped nationwide. This restructuring combined several areas under the newly formed Fès-Meknès regional division.

The prefecture contains numerous educational institutions, including the University of Al Quaraouiyine, which maintains its position as a center of learning in Morocco.

Visitors and residents can access administrative services in multiple languages at offices throughout the city and surrounding areas. It is best to come during regular business hours and prepare necessary documents in advance.

Within its boundaries, ten separate communes operate with their own local governance systems while remaining under central oversight. This arrangement allows for local decision-making while maintaining coordinated regional planning.
