Mansion of Balioz family, Architectural monument in Ivancea, Moldova.
The mansion is a three-story residence built in the style of a Moldovan noble house, situated within a large estate spanning several hectares. Surrounding the main building are original 19th-century structures including a water tower, storage buildings, and stables.
Construction of the mansion took place between 1852 and 1873 under Armenian noble Carebet Balioz, who served as administrator and son-in-law to Manuc Bei. This period marked a time when Armenian families wielded considerable influence over regional affairs and land management.
The Balioz name reflects the Armenian noble families who held power in the region during the 19th century. Visitors can observe how the layout of buildings and grounds reveals how wealthy landowners organized their daily lives and managed their estates.
The property is maintained and managed by a museum institution, making it accessible to visitors year-round. Plan enough time to walk through the various buildings and explore the full extent of the grounds.
The estate retains rare original buildings from the 19th century, including specialized structures such as wine cellars and storage rooms that show how daily operations were conducted. Such well-preserved secondary buildings are uncommon to find together in the region.
