The Stânca-Costești Dam stretches 300 meters across the Prut River, connecting Moldova and Romania with its 43-meter-high concrete structure.
The dam emerged from a 1972 agreement between Romania and the USSR, with construction completed in 1978 following devastating floods earlier that decade.
The dam marks a meeting point between Romanian and Moldovan territories, representing decades of international cooperation in water resource management.
Two turbines generate 32 megawatts of electricity while the reservoir stores 1.29 cubic kilometers of water for flood control and irrigation purposes.
The structure functions simultaneously as a historical monument, power station, international bridge, and border checkpoint between two European nations.
