Kruševo

Kruševo is a town situated at 1,350 meters elevation in North Macedonia, where cobbled streets wind between stone buildings displaying Ottoman architectural influences. The closely packed structures form an intricate street network that rises across multiple hillsides.

The town played a crucial role in Macedonia's independence movement during the early 20th century. A local uprising briefly led to the establishment of an independent republic under local governance.

The name comes from a wild plant that grew in this region. Residents maintain traditional crafts and welcome visitors into homes decorated with characteristic blue window frames and wooden balconies.

The town sits at high altitude and often receives snow in winter, which can make walking on streets difficult. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are essential throughout much of the year.

A large monument on the hilltop marks the revolutionary past of the town with an unusual spherical shape. This structure is visible from everywhere in town and defines its visual character.
