Sveta Bogorodica Perivlepta, Medieval Orthodox church in Ohrid, North Macedonia.

Sveta Bogorodica Perivlepta is a stone church in Ohrid with thick walls, a central dome, and multiple windows decorated with elements of traditional Orthodox church architecture. The building is joined by an adjoining gallery that displays religious artifacts from the 13th century.

The church was completed in 1295 and contains fresco paintings by artists Mihail and Eutihije. These works represent one of the oldest fresco cycles of the Palaeologus Renaissance in Byzantine art history.

The painted walls inside show biblical stories and holy figures created using techniques perfected by medieval Macedonian and Serbian artists. These works reflect a regional tradition where religious narratives were told through visual art over many centuries.

Plan for about two hours to explore both the church interior and the adjoining gallery. Wear waterproof footwear in wet conditions, as the old stone surfaces can become slippery.

The church structure features viewing terraces that offer direct views across Lake Ohrid and the surrounding mountainous land. This placement allows visitors to experience religious art and natural views together.
