Vevčani Springs

Vevčani Springs emerge from multiple water sources flowing out of caves on the eastern slope of Jablanica Mountain and form a network of streams at approximately 900 meters elevation. The system feeds several water channels that flow through green areas and support various local uses.

The springs formed through geological processes over long periods in this mountain region. In 1987, residents successfully resisted government plans to divert their water to the city of Struga.

The springs serve as gathering places for religious ceremonies and local celebrations throughout the year, with three small churches situated near the water sources. For residents, these waters are woven into daily life and hold deep roots in community identity.

You can reach the springs by walking a 550-meter paved path from Vevčani village center, which is straightforward to navigate on foot. Informational signs along the way explain the local ecosystem and features of the water sources.

The water system comprises seven distinct springs, with some originating in higher areas and flowing year-round despite seasonal variations in nearby regions. This diverse structure makes the area hydrologically special and helps sustain water availability for the community.
