Kayah State

Kayah State is an administrative region in eastern Myanmar characterized by mountainous terrain covered with dense forests and crossed by several rivers. The landscape creates varied topography that shapes the overall character of this eastern territory.

The region was previously known as Karenni States under British colonial rule and received its current name and administrative structure in 1952. This reorganization marked an important shift in how the territory was governed.

The population of 286,627 includes the Kayah, Kayan, and other ethnic groups who maintain their traditional practices, languages, and ceremonial clothing.

The state capital Loikaw can be reached by domestic flights from major cities like Yangon or Mandalay, or by bus services that connect different parts of the country. The route you choose depends on availability and your travel preferences.

A major hydroelectric dam in the region supplies more than a fifth of Myanmar's national power generation. This infrastructure facility plays a crucial role in the country's energy system.
