Mandalay Palace, Royal palace in Mandalay, Myanmar
The Mandalay Palace is the last royal palace of the last Burmese monarchy.
Constructed during the reign of King Mindon in the mid-19th century, it was the primary royal residence until the British conquest of Burma in 1885.
The palace complex is a symbol of Mandalay and a primary symbol of Burmese sovereignty.
Today, the Mandalay Palace has been reconstructed and serves as a museum.
The entire palace complex is surrounded by four 2 km long walls and a moat.
