St. John's Co-Cathedral, Baroque cathedral in Valletta, Malta

The cathedral's interior displays ornate marble floors, gilded walls, and vaulted ceilings adorned with detailed paintings depicting scenes from the life of Saint John.

Construction of St. John's Co-Cathedral began in 1572 under Grand Master Jean de la Cassière, with Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar leading the project until completion in 1577.

The cathedral contains over 400 inlaid marble tombstones on its floor, marking the final resting places of knights and officers of the Order of Saint John.

The cathedral opens from Monday to Saturday between 09:00 and 16:45, with adult admission at 15 euros including an audio guide in multiple languages.

The Oratory houses Caravaggio's largest painting, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, which remains the only artwork bearing the artist's signature.
