Nadur Tower

Nadur Tower is a square-shaped watchtower in Rabat that rises at Bingemma Gap and contains two interior rooms with iron rungs leading to the observation roof. The structure offers viewing points across the western Maltese landscape from its accessible platform.

The structure was built in 1637 and formed part of the Lascaris tower network that connected Malta's island defenses. It served as a communications post between Mdina and coastal fortifications.

The tower shows how the Order of Saint John designed their defensive structures and remains an important protected heritage site in Malta. Visitors can observe the architectural choices made for watchtowers and understand how such buildings fit into island life.

The tower sits in open countryside at Bingemma Gap and is reached by a short walk across fields from the nearest road. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring sun protection, as the exposed location offers little shelter.

Unlike most watchtowers in the region that sit along the coast, this structure stands inland and offers strategic views across the countryside. Its position allowed sight-line communication with distant fortifications.
