Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Gothic Revival church with two prominent towers that rises above Balluta Bay in St. Julian's. The facade combines red and cream-colored bricks in a design that gives the building its distinctive appearance.

A simple chapel was built on this site in 1859 according to plans by Giuseppe Bonavia. The structure underwent major reconstruction in 1877 and was further modified under the influence of architect Gustavo R. Vincenti after Carmelite monks established their presence there in 1900.

The church serves as a spiritual center for the St. Julian's community and draws residents who gather regularly for worship and religious observance. Its prominent position overlooking the bay makes it an easily recognized landmark for locals navigating the neighborhood.

The main entrance faces Balluta Bay, offering easy access for visitors to enter the building. Religious services happen throughout the week with more frequent schedules on weekends, so visitors can plan their visit accordingly.
