Church of St Philip of Agira, Ħaż-Żebbuġ

Church of St Philip of Agira, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Baroque parish church in Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Malta.

The Church of St Philip of Agira is a Baroque building with a central nave flanked by side aisles, featuring silver decorations and detailed architectural elements throughout the interior. The structure displays the characteristic design of its period with elaborate ornamentation in its spaces.

An earlier church stood on this site from 1380, built with support from Filippo de Catania. The present building was constructed between 1599 and 1632 following significant events that shaped the region.

The church houses artworks created by local artists like Francesco Zahra, reflecting the community's connection to artistic traditions over centuries. Visitors can observe the crafted details that express how people here have honored their religious life.

The church is open to visitors during its hours and offers a clear view of its architectural features and interior spaces. You can take your time exploring the building and observing the details at a comfortable pace.

The statue of St Philip was crafted entirely in silver in 1864, which sets it apart from traditional wooden statues. This unusual choice shows the special care and resources the community invested in this work.
