Badagry, Colonial port town in Lagos State, Nigeria

Badagry extends along the north bank of Porto Novo Creek, connecting Lagos with the Republic of Benin through navigable inland waterways.

Between 1736 and 1851, this port served as a major trading center where European merchants transported approximately 550,000 enslaved Africans to America.

The town celebrates multiple traditions through festivals of the Aworis, Egun, Yoruba, and Ogu ethnic groups who speak the Ogu language.

Visitors can explore local markets, including Beach Town Supermarket and Smark Mini Mall, which offer fresh produce, clothing, and traditional items.

The first multi-level structure in Nigeria, built in Marina district during 1845, remains standing as a testament to early European architecture.
