Drommedaris

The Drommedaris is a 3-story fortified structure built in 1649 at the harbor entrance of Enkhuizen, displaying defensive features from that era. The building has a solid stone construction with details typical of 17th-century Dutch defensive architecture.

The structure was built as part of Enkhuizen's city defenses to protect the harbor from attack and serve as a watchtower over the Zuiderzee. It represents a key moment in the city's effort to secure its maritime position.

Today the building serves as a cultural venue where locals and visitors gather for theater productions, music, and film events. The space has become part of how the town shares its artistic life and brings people together.
