Hoogeveen is a municipality in Drenthe province in northern Netherlands, featuring residential areas, commercial districts, and a network of roads throughout. The area sits at about 12 meters above sea level and covers approximately 129 square kilometers.
Hoogeveen was established in 1636 by Peter Joostens Warmont and Johan van der Meer as a settlement in the peat-rich area. The founders developed the location by extracting natural resources that were abundant in the landscape.
